Autonomous mobile robot for monitoring dangerous sections on railway lines successfully tested
As part of the InspectRAIL project in the RIMA programme, we successfully tested a prototype autonomous mobile robot on the test site. The robot moved along tensioned steel wires along the railway line and recorded the situation on the railway line with LiDAR and a camera. In this way, the robot could detect if there was a dangerous obstacle on the track. If it detects one, it sends an alarm to the control centre via a wireless radio link. The staff at the control centre can then take a closer look at the dangerous location on the railway line using a remote-controlled camera located on the robot.
